PROJECT: Custom Design for DTG Print Tea Towels
BRIEF: A fun project that I offered to do pro bono for friends whose family has owned the historical ranch featured in their 100th Year anniversary event for… a century! I needed to incorporate the very special artwork into a design for commemorative, keepsake tea (dish) towels to be given to the many friends and family members at the event.
SOLUTION: The featured artwork is a paper collage (created by a beloved family member/artist) of the famed Casa Trulli home built on the ranch by the family’s late patriarch, Roy Wilson, Sr. Since the tea towels were a rectangular shape but the artwork is square, I added a stylized “vintage” border, a background that stretched the final visual into a matching rectangle, and then added the text. Since the late artist, Judith Weldon, had been a calligrapher, the family was seeking a “calligraphic” look to the type. The tea towels were then printed on a DTG press by yet another connection: the family printing business of an ex-boss of mine, now living in Texas. Word is, the tea towels were a smashing hit. I especially enjoyed both the process, and, the wonderful people connections involved.
